Choose semi-frameless when
- The budget matters more than the last word in looks.
- The screen sits on a hob, where the jambs and channel help keep water in.
- You're replacing an old framed screen and want the jambs to cover the old jamb line.
- You're installing it yourself and want lighter glass and more forgiving fixing.
- A rental, a flat or a second bathroom.
Choose frameless when
- You want nothing but glass and a few small fittings.
- A wall is out of plumb and you want the glass to sit flush to it (the fixed panel is cut on a rake).
- The layout is a walk-in panel, a bath screen, a sliding door or a diamond screen.
- Easiest cleaning: no frame for water to sit in.

- A screen with 6 mm toughened glass held in a slim aluminium frame: wall jambs on the walls, a channel along the floor and a framed pivot door, but no frame on the glass edges between the panels or along the top. It looks lighter than a fully framed screen and costs less than frameless.

- Semi-frameless or frameless?
- Frameless for the cleanest look and the easiest cleaning, and when a wall is out of plumb (the fixed panel is cut on a rake to suit). Semi-frameless when budget matters most, when the screen sits on a hob where the jambs help, or when you want something lighter to handle: the same wall-to-wall screen is $515 frameless and $631 semi-frameless, supply only.
- Which layouts come semi-frameless?
- Wall to wall: fixed panel + door; Wall to wall: fixed + door + fixed; Corner (L-shape): return + door + fixed; Three-sided cubicle (U-shape). Walk-in panels, bath screens, sliding doors and diamond screens are frameless only.
- What about walls that aren't plumb?
- The aluminium wall jamb takes up the run-out: the glass stays square and the jamb is packed to the wall, so you don't need to measure plumb for a semi-frameless screen. More than about 10 mm starts to show as a wedge, and we'll say so at the check measure.
- How is it installed?
- In one visit: the jambs are fixed to the walls, the floor channel is bedded in silicone, the fixed panels go in and the pivot door is hung and adjusted. No shower for 24 hours while the silicone cures. Installation is $650.00 on top of the supply price.
- Is 6 mm glass safe?
- Yes. It is Grade A toughened safety glass to AS/NZS 2208, the same standard as our 10 mm frameless glass, held on all four sides by the frame. It is also lighter: a door is easy for one person to handle.
- Can I order it supply only?
- Yes. It arrives as the glass panels, the frame set cut to suit and the door hardware, with the drawing. A tiler or handyman can fit a semi-frameless screen with ordinary tools; see the supply-only page.
