Replacing an old shower screen in Wollongong
We take out the old framed or frameless screen, dispose of it, and fit a new made-to-measure frameless screen in its place. Removal and disposal is $120 on top of the installed price, so a new wall-to-wall screen with the old one gone is from $1,585 inc. GST.
Most renovations start here: the tiles are fine, the frame is corroded, the door drags, or a 1990s gold frame has outstayed its welcome. The new glass sits on the same tiles.

How a replacement goes
- 1
Get your estimate
Open the designer in supply + install, pick the layout that matches your shower, put in rough sizes and tick "remove and dispose of the old screen". The installed estimate includes the removal.
- 2
Leave the old screen in
It protects the tiles until install day. At the check measure we measure around it: the frame sits on the face of the tiles, so the sizes we need at the base are all there.
- 3
Check measure
We hold a level on every wall and along the base, check what the door will swing into, and look at what the old frame has been hiding. You get the final price to approve before any glass is ordered. $99 booking fee, deducted from your total.

Glass made to suit
7–10 business days for made-to-order panels; stock sizes are quicker.
- 5
Out with the old, in with the new
On install day we cut the silicone, unscrew the old jambs, take the screen away, clean the silicone residue off the tiles and seal the old screw holes. Then the new fixed panels go in. A frameless door is hung on a second visit once the silicone has cured, so the hinges never load a wet joint.
What an old frame hides
- A line of old silicone and grime on the tiles. We scrape and clean it before the new glass goes on.
- Screw holes through the tiles. They're sealed; the new brackets fix in new positions.
- Walls that were never plumb. A framed screen's jamb hid that. Frameless glass can't, so we measure it and cut the fixed panel to suit.
- Occasionally a cracked tile or failed grout. You hear about it at the check measure, not after the glass is made.
Frameless or semi-frameless?
Frameless is the usual choice: 10 mm glass, small brackets, nothing for water to sit in. Semi-frameless (6 mm glass in slim aluminium jambs) is cheaper, goes in in one visit, and its wall jambs cover an old jamb line better. Compare the two.

Replacement questions
- How much does it cost to replace a shower screen?
- The installed price of the new screen plus $120 to remove and dispose of the old one. A new wall-to-wall frameless screen with a fixed panel and hinged door is from $1,585 inc. GST with the old screen gone; a walk-in panel from $863; a corner screen from $1,985.
- Will the new screen cover the old screw holes and silicone marks?
- Usually not completely: a frameless screen has small brackets where an old framed screen had a full-height jamb. We clean the silicone off the tiles and seal the old holes with colour-matched silicone, and the new fixed panel sits over most of the old jamb line. We'll tell you at the check measure what will still show.
- Do I need to re-tile?
- Not for the screen. Frameless glass sits on the finished tiles and fixes through them, so if the tiles are sound the old screen comes out and the new one goes in. If the tiles behind the old frame are cracked or drummy we'll say so at the check measure, before anything is ordered.
- Should I take the old screen out myself first?
- Leave it in until we come. It protects the tile edges, and if you go supply only and remove it yourself: cut the silicone with a blade, unscrew the jambs from the wall, and have a second person for the glass. Toughened glass goes in the general-waste skip; framed screens usually have aluminium worth recycling.
- Can you replace just the door or one panel?
- Sometimes. A hinged door needs hinges and cut-outs that match the fixed panel it hangs off, and most old screens use hardware we don't stock. Email a photo of the hinges and we'll say. A broken fixed walk-in panel on brackets or in a channel is straightforward: price it as a walk-in panel.
- How long does the job take?
- The check measure is 15–20 minutes. Removal and setting the fixed panels is one visit of two to three hours; a frameless door is hung on a second short visit once the silicone has cured. No shower for 24 hours after sealing.
- Old framed screen over a bath?
- Yes: the old frame and sliding panels come out and a single hinged or fixed frameless bath screen goes in. See the bath screen page.
- Can I replace a framed screen with a semi-frameless one to save money?
- Yes, for wall-to-wall, corner and three-sided layouts. Semi-frameless uses slim aluminium wall jambs, which also do a better job of covering an old jamb line. See the semi-frameless page.
